Rules & Requirements
Eligibility
- A masonry contractor, architect or materials supplier may submit projects completed between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2010. The window for projects has been extended to include any projects that have not won awards in the past 5 years.
- No re-entry of past winning projects.
- Masonry Contractor must current member of the MAF in good standing, and the job must be completed in the state of Florida.
Each contractor or company may submit up to three projects. Each project must be submitted separately, with its own entry form and supporting documentation.
- 75% of the exterior structure must be made of masonry. Stand alone and or special features should reflect 100% masonry or masonry veneer. IE waterfalls, fireplaces,( brick, block, stone and glass block veneers)
- The MAF reserves the right to reject any entry based on non-conformance to the specifications.
Judges may disqualify entries based on their discretion.
- Incomplete submissions will lose scoring points and may be disqualified. Please fill in all areas of the form – if you must leave an area blank, please indicate that the questions is “not applicable”
Judging Criteria
- Each category receives a score with point value: 1 lowest – 10 highest in the following five categories for a maximum total score of 50.
- Prominence of Masonry or Masonry Volume – 75% of the structure minimum
- Degree of Difficulty – Defined as difficulty regarding masonry workmanship
- Innovative Design, Construction or use of Materials - For example, did any of the materials get re-purposed or used in a different way?
- Aesthetics – What does the finished job look like - good design.
- Clean Job – Is the masonry level, plumb, etc.
The panel of judges will consist of architects, masons, apprentice instructors, masonry suppliers and the two chairmen of the committee.
Photo Requirements
How many photos should I include with my entry? A minimum of five photos should be submitted of the project. No more than 20 photos should be supplied. Photos must show at least one overall view of the project, one shot taken during construction (if available), and one of the completed project. Additionally, a close-up photo should be included highlighting the masonry craftsmanship.
Can I send digital photos instead of prints? Digital photos of 300 dpi are preferred to printed photos. Remember these photographs are the jury's means for evaluating each entry, so color copies should not be sent.
Can I use photographs I took myself? Yes, if they are professional-quality photographs that can be reproduced for publication. Minimum 300 dpi and must adhere to the photo requirements indicated above.
Should I send drawings, floor plans, or renderings? Drawings are preferred - especially wall details. You can include up to four drawings (maximum size 8.5x14 inches) showing interesting design details.
Project Submission Photos become the property of the Masonry Association of Florida (MAF) and you agree to give the MAF the right to use the photos in all contest publicity, including, but not limited to, articles, promotional materials, and Web site features. Deadline for submissions is June 1, 2011 No exceptions or extensions allowed.

Winning Projects
All qualified award entries will be showcased at the 2011 MAF Annual Convention Welcome Reception & Awards Preview to be held on Friday, August 5, 2011.
Award Winners will be announced and trophies presented at the 2011 MAF Annual Convention Awards Banquet on Saturday, August 6, 2011.
Award winners will be featured in the 2011 MAF Contractor Excellence Awards Book.
